Case History:
Mercury Abatement

Great Lakes Ships
MEC, Inc. was contracted to provide mercury abatement on many Great Lakes cargo ships docked in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio.  The work involved decontamination in various areas throughout the vessels and was accomplished during the winter months.  MEC, Inc. owns a Lumex meter that is considered the “state of the art” detection devise for mercury decontamination confirmation.

Ohio High School
In 2005/06, MEC, Inc. conducted the largest mercury clean-up project in the state of Ohio.  The work involved the complete decontamination of a High School that had a fire, which released mercury vapor throughout the building.  The project included decontamination or disposal of every single item in the building.  Books, musical instruments, computers, furniture- virtually every single item was either decontaminated, or disposed of as contaminated material.  The building itself was systematically disassembled leaving only the original outside block walls and roof trusses.  The project lasted approximately four months and was completed on schedule to allow rebuilding of the structure in time for the 2006 fall semester.
