Case History:
Underground Storage Tank Removal

U.S. Air Force
MEC, Inc was contracted to remove four 50,000-gallon Jet Fuel tanks at Edwards Air Force Base in California.  The project consisted of the dismantling and removal of a large refueling pump house and the four buried tanks.  The project was particularly sensitive in that the tanks were adjacent to active runways out on the flight line of Edwards Air Force Base.  Extreme care had to be taken to ensure no debris of any kind could be blown or tracked onto a runway.  Every tire of every vehicle had to be checked for stones in the tire treads before driving onto the Flight Line.

The tanks, which were 50’ long and 12’ in diameter, had to be lifted out of the ground using a 300-ton crane and placed onto extended flatbed trailers for transport off of the base.  All work was performed on time and to the complete satisfaction of the customer.
